Explore the Art of Movement in Photography

Photography isn’t just about capturing what things look like — it’s about how they feel. In these personalized 1:1 sessions, we’ll go beyond the literal and into the expressive, using Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and multiple exposure techniques to create images that evoke memory, emotion, and atmosphere.

Whether you’re new to ICM or looking to refine your voice, these sessions are designed to meet you where you are. We’ll spend a few hours in the field experimenting with motion, blur, layering, and rhythm — and then move to the computer to explore how post-processing can elevate your results. You’ll walk away with new techniques, a deeper understanding of movement-based photography, and the confidence to create work that’s truly your own.

What you’ll need:

The ideal student will have a digital SLR or mirrorless camera and a basic working knowledge of manual settings — particularly shutter speed and aperture. Cameras that allow in-camera multiple exposures are a plus, though not required.

Half-day sessions: $500

Includes 2+ hours shooting on location and at least 1 hour of guided editing and review. Longer sessions are available on request. Sessions normally take place in and around Portland. Urban landscapes are ideal for capturing movement. As a part of the screening process, we’ll determine together what the locations might be based on your goals and preferences.
